For the past few months we have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our Little Free Library. This past Saturday, the day finally arrived for our library installation and grand opening. Student designers and their mentors who helped build our library came out to help install it. But first we had to dig a hole for it.
So we dug…
And dug…
And dug…
We dug through some truly horrendous soil. Eventually we got deep enough for the concrete footer. And the team assembled their library, cracking jokes all along the way. The team had clearly bonded tighter than construction-grade adhesive over the course of their semester.
We stocked our library with books donated to us from the National Building Museum and from our own gardeners. Come check out the stash–my favorites out there right now: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and Doggies by Sandra Boynton. Two classics!
We had two of the very first visitors shortly after it opened. I think they found a few things they liked. Maybe you will too! Please help yourself to the books, bring them back when you finish or bring another book or two to stock the library with in return. And please consider yourself a steward of the library–tell others about it and help us protect and care for it. Happy reading!
